Spring Bass on Shasta Lake…

Sorry it’s been a bit since my last update… we have been busy fly fishing on Shasta Lake for bass and fishing the Lower Sac for big wild trout.

Shasta Lake is full again this season and the water is in great shape. The fly fishing for spotted bass has been outstanding w/ the occasional SM & LM randomly showing up as well. Water temps are a few degrees warmer than typical for April due to the warmer winter and lack of any substantial snowmelt. As one would expect this has the fish a little ahead of schedule as well and moving up into shallower water with each passing week.

We have had those days lately where we have long forgotten how many fish we’ve lipped since morning by lunchtime…

The Lower Sac has been fantastic as well. The Sundial Bridge section fished GREAT in March and is now closed to all fishing until August 1st. Lower floats have been refreshing and the “spring green up” is in its full splendor right now. Solid hatches of PMD, MB, some caddis and I even saw my first adult Salmonfly last week (April 12th) of the season!
