Fall River is Awesome…
We have been focusing our entire month of June on Fall River with occasional days on the Lower Sacramento River here in Redding.
Fall River is one of our region’s top wild trout fisheries. It is included in the CA Wild & Heritage Trout program and is loaded with native, wild rainbow trout that are aggressive and hard-pulling. It’s common to hook trout from 14” to up to 22” w/ lots of healthy trout in the 16”-18” range.
Fall River is just one small contributor to an enormous spring-fed waterway network including: Spring Creek, Tule River, Lava Creek/Eastman Lake, Big Lake, Ahjumawi Lava Springs State Park - Ja-She, Crystal Springs, Horr Pond, and many other spring-fed seeps and ponds which feed the Fall River Valley near the towns of McArthur and Fall River Mills, CA.
This is agrarian region is tucked away in the upper northeast corner of Shasta County and it’s what I like to call, “the area that time forgot about”. It’s a very unique and special place with hundreds of local farms and ranches producing cattle, wild rice, lavender, garlic, mint, hay, and alfalfa.
Fall River Valley is a nestled in a volcanic, high desert, lush basin situated between 11k Mt Lassen to the south and 14k Mt Shasta to the west… the valley itself sits just above 3k feet in elevation and the views are incredible.
Best times to fish the Fall River are early summer… May/June and early Fall Sept/Oct. Talk to me to get more info on fly fishing Fall River or visit my website and use the drop down menu Fall River in the Waters category.
