Flows Dropping on Lower Sac…

Just in time for March and spring fishing… flows on the Lower Sacramento River, here in Redding, CA, are on the drop. Flows are now at a SUPER FISHY flow of 17k as of 3/2/24.

The flows had been bumped up to 40k (yes, 40,000cfs) back in late February in order to drop Shasta Lake level to accommodate runoff (the lake was rising very quickly) during those intense winter storms. There are mandatory trigger points of release throughout wintertime in order to preserve a reservoir capacity in the “lake”… it is a “reservoir” after all, folks. Flood control, water storage, etc…

Anyways, fishing will commence! I will be on the river asap this week.

March is a great time to fish the Lower Sac as the Sundial Bridge section of the river will close on April 1st… and it re-opens on August 1st. If you are a fan of the Sundial Bridge area (where the biggest trout live) then you better jump on my last open dates: March 25, 26

In addition to the Lower Sac river we are still fishing for steelhead & catching brown trout on the Trinity River. We were able to get down in JC last week after a two week wait for flows to come down to a more fishable flow. We got into some great stlhd fishing and landed a few brown trout as well.

There is still some time to get one last steelhead trip in for the 2023-2024 season! Contact me asap to discuss. Once we get into April I will be focusing more on the Lower Sac and Shasta bass trips.

Speaking of bass… it is almost go-time for fly fishing and the float n fly. I have been poking around the lake on my days off these past few weeks. This is what I do on my days off, as well as a hit the trails on my mtn bike. Guide’s mental health care program.

The Lake is nearly full and I am happy to report the spotted bass are in great shape! They are noticeably bigger this season and the bass tournaments have also reflected this with above avg bag sizes in the weigh-ins so far. The lake will see another summer at full pool and this is a special thing! Come see why I love this place so much.

Lastly… I am clearing out my fleet of Sage fly rods

I have a bunch of fly rods in excellent-too-good condition at very affordable prices. Contact me via email or text (info on website) for more details and prices.
